A very Happy Mother's Day (or Mothering Sunday if you prefer) to you all, whatever the day might mean to you.

I was hoping to potter about in my garden today but the weather gods decided I should stay in and do the ironing while the rain pours down. I call that very unfair! But at least I was able to cut the grass again yesterday and pot up ten dahlia tubers which are now in the greenhouse ready to spring into action when the warmer weather arrives.

In less than seven weeks An Ideal Husband will be published in hardback and I know many wonderful readers have already pre-ordered the book, but if you haven't there's still plenty of time to do so.

A few of you have asked how my eyes are following my cataract surgery and I'm happy to report that all is well and I've just been given new varifocals and I'm hoping that means I can get back to work properly next week. It's been very frustrating for me since the surgery because staring at a computer screen for any length of time strained my eyes and resulted in excruciating headaches. Anyway, onwards and upwards from here on!

Right, the delights of the ironing board beckons, so that's all from me. Have a lovely day everyone!

Well, it's March and finally the F1 season is upon us with race day today for the Bahrain Grand Prix. After watching qualifying yesterday it does look like we might be in for more of the same action with Verstappen and Red Bull at the top of the board. Hopefully I'm wrong and we might have a team that actually challenges Red Bull, we certainly need that.

Meanwhile, I woke the mower up from its winter slumber and managed to give the grass its first cut of the season this week. It was lucky I did it when I did as it's rained again and again since then. I know from many people on Twitter/X that grass cutting is a long way off for them as the ground is just so wet. Despite the rain, spring is making its mark in the garden with a few more flowers emerging.

For all F1 fans I hope you enjoy the race. I'll be cheering on Mercedes as usual and McLaren.

More from me next week.

It's just two months until my new book An Ideal Husband will be published here in the UK so the countdown is now on. I've been told that my publishers will be running a competition for some lucky readers to win an early copy, so I'll be sure to let you know more when I have full details.

For now, here's a cute little video ...

P.S. Beware non F1 fans, the new season starts very soon so there'll be a bit of chatter on that subject in the months ahead!

Hellebore season is upon us and with my 'new-cataract-free-eyes' the colours look so pretty. Following the advice of the surgeon who worked the miracle on my eyes I'm now using a pair of cheap 'readers' glasses with a very low magnification for a close-up work.

Once the waiting period is over my optician will sort out what strength my new varifocals will be. For now though, I can certainly appreciate the brightness and sharpness of my surroundings. The downside (other than the lines and wrinkles I can now see on my face!) is that I can also see the slightest speck of dust and the cobwebs which hitherto were invisible to me.

I hope you're all having a lovely weekend and you've enjoyed some much-needed sunshine after all the rain we've had recently.
